A daily Pattern

The pattern below can be used as a structure for daily prayer. It owes it's origins to the Celtic patterns of prayer emanating from the North East of England. Most church service books also include a similar structure for daily prayer..

Preparation for Prayer

I weave a silence on to my lips,
I weave a silence into my mind
I weave a silence within my heart
I close my ears to distractions
I close my eyes to attractions
I close my heart to temptations

Calm me, O Lord as you stilled the storm.
Still me, O Lord, keep me from harm
Let all the tumult within me cease

Enfold me, Lord, in your peace.

Praise and Adoration

Select one of the following psalms to lead into a moment of quiet reflecting on who God is, and what he has done :
Psalm  95, 96, 98, 100, 103, 121, 148, 150

Confession :

Father I have sinned. I have fallen short of what you want in my life. I am sorry. I turn to you again, and am reassured by your forgiveness. Please help me to uphold your will for my life, day by day. Amen.

Some Words of Scripture

Seek the Lord while he may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. (Isaiah 55.6)

Jesus said ""Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me." (John 14:1)

Use alternative scripture passages to give variety.

The Celtic Cross

The Lords Prayer.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.

Now and for ever. Amen

Followed by other, open prayers which both thank God for his blessings to us, and bring before him our concerns.

Final Prayer

Father, In the awareness of Your presence
Beneath the shadow of Your wings,
In the closeness of Your love, may we abide.

Jesus, In the fellowship of Your saints,
In the communion of Your faithful,
In the church called to mission, may we abide

Spirit, In the power of Your love,
In the fullness of Your gifts,
In the guidance of Your wisdom, may we abide. Amen
